First 5 came to ALOM because they were experiencing inventory and delivery delays fulfilling kit orders. Since 2004, ALOM has continually supported the highly visible State of California First 5 new parent education and resource fulfillment program.
Strategy
ALOM provides a full-service turnkey solution comprised of IT system integration for ordering, material procurement, inventory management, assembly/kitting, fulfillment and delivery of more than 400,000 New Parent Kits annually (available in seven languages and in different versions for 59 counties).

Result
The original service goals required by the First 5 program was to ship all orders within ten days, and ship most orders within 3-5 days of the requested ship date. ALOM shipped the orders within 17 hours – less than one day – of the orders being placed or the requested ship date and running a 100% fill-rate for the SKUs controlled by ALOM. Using continuous improvement, ALOM streamlined the kit, cut freight cost, added subscription orders and e-mail notifications and improved user interface.
